STARTIMES UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Tuesday’s Result
Vipers SC 2-0 Mbarara City FC
We restored our advantage at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) this evening with a comfortable 2-0 home victory over Mbarara City.
We came into the game after KCCA FC had earlier closed the gap on us to four points following the Kasasiro Boys 3-0 away win at UPDF FC.
But goals from youngster Najib Yiga and Milton Karisa ensured the Venoms went seven points clear of second placed KCCA FC, both teams having played 22 games apiece.
In a half short of goal scoring chances, Vipers broke the deadlock just before the break through Yiga’s stunning flying header that beat goalkeeper Muhammed Ssekeeba and send the Venoms into celebrations.
Few seconds afterwards and with arguably the last kick of the opening half, Vipers had a chance to extend their lead but CAR forward Cesar Manzoki agonizingly missed the target after being set through by Karisa.
Mbarara’s best chance in the first half fell to David Ojok who rattled the crossbar midway the opening half.
Karisa doubled Vipers advantage in the 70th minute with a well-taken strike after the Mbarara City back line failed to deal with a long ball into their area.
In the later exchanges of the game, Vipers tried to extend their lead but that wasn’t possible as the game ended 2-0.
With the victory, Vipers SC restore their seven point lead atop of StarTimes Uganda Premier League log as they now sit on 52 points in 22 games.
