Friday’s Result

Tooro United FC 1-0 Vipers SC

We missed an opportunity of extending our table lead to six points after suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tooro United FC at the Buhinga Stadium, Fort Portal this evening.

Mark Nsubuga’s late strike was enough for the Roaring Lions to pick just their third win in the 2021/22 season in 20 matches.

The result however did not change both teams’ positions on the 16 team log with Vipers at the summit with 43 points whereas Tooro United FC stayed rock bottom on 12 points.

It’s the Venoms who started off with the higher tempo, rushing Tooro’s backline into a mistake which Yunus Sentamu failed to capitalize on with five minutes played.

They asked more questions in the tenth minute through Milton Karisa whose shot from the edge of the box was saved by goalkeeper Simon Mabuya.

Following a foul on Vipers’ Najib Yiga outside the box at 23 minutes, Disan Ggaliwango stepped up but could only send his freekick a few inches over the bar.

With 28 and 37 minutes played, Yiga and Cesar Manzoki all missed the target after great deliveries from Bobosi Byaruhanga and Sentamu respectively, piling frustration to the visitors.

In the final stanza, at the hour mark, the Venoms continued with the wastefulness as substitute Bright Anukani shot wide an excellent Emmanuel Munoobi pass.

After a period of sustained pressure by Tooro, they found a breakthrough off Nsubuga’s goal after good work by Muhammad Ssenoga with ten minutes to the 90.

Four minutes later, the hosts were forced to play the remaining bits of the game with ten men after a red card to Martin Arinaitwe.

However, this could not play to the advantage of the visitors who failed to capitalize, denting them to a third loss this campaign.

The four time champions will return to action on Wednesday against Busoga United at the St Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
