Saturday’s Result

Vipers SC 1-0 Tooro United FC

Cesar Manzoki scored the only goal of the match as Vipers SC ground out a 1-0 victory over Tooro United on Saturday at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The Congolese beat the offside trap in the 69th minute to place the ball beyond Tooro goalkeeper Kenneth Lukyamuzi.

The win moves Vipers to within four points of table leaders KCCA FC, who dropped points in the 1-1 draw with SC Villa. Vipers are second on the log on 23 points.

Having struggled to settle in the match at the early stages of the game, the Venoms got into full gear, mastering a host of chances, albeit, struggling to score.

At the 20th minute-mark, Manzoki came close to the opener but his shot only rose over the bar after a superb delivery from Yunus Sentamu.

Five minutes later, after a brilliant move by Bright Anukani, Aziz Kayondo struck but the goal-bound effort unluckily crashed against the woodwork to deny the Venoms a breakthrough.

At the half-hour mark, the home team missed twice in succession. Manzoki’s headed effort was blocked and a rebound from Sentamu was saved by Tooro goalkeeper Kenneth Lukyamuzi.

Manzoki yet again uncharacteristically headed inches wide a beautiful Bobosi Byaruhanga cross with five minutes to the end of the first half.

Anukani’s long range effort was saved by Lukyamuzi in the 43rd minute, to cap off a frustrating opening 45 minutes for the Kitende side.

Like it was at the start of the first half, Vipers yet again struggled to get hold of the second half, sloppy in attack and creating barely anything in over ten minutes.

In the 68th minute, Manzoki, who had missed a couple of first half chances was never going to miss another one, slotting in past Lukyamuzi.

Credit went to Kayondo whose excellent work down the left flank set the Congolese for the opener.

With five minutes to the 90th minute, substitute Dan Serunkuuma thought he had doubled the lead but his effort went inches wide.

Vipers will visit Bright Stars at the Kavumba Recreation Playground on Tuesday, December 21 for their next encounter.
