Saturday’s Result
Busoga United 1-4 Vipers SC
Vipers SC moved back to second position on the 16 team StarTimes Uganda Premier League table with a comfortable 4-1 win over Busoga United this evening.
We leapfrogged BUL FC who had taken up the position after their 3-1 win over Tooro United on Friday.
Goals from injury returnee Yunus Sentamu, the Congolese magnifico Cesar Manzoki, Ibrahim Orit and Aziz Kayondo ensured that the Venoms picked the win at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru. Anwari Mustafa Ntege scored for the hosts.
The latter gave the home team an early lead as he scored a second minute penalty after Aziz Kayondo’s handball in the box.
The guests responded with a series of attacks and it did not take long before they found the equalizer. Sentamu who was making a return from an injury layoff scored a stunning freekick in the 14th minute to make it level.
Three minutes later, Orit extended the Venoms’ lead with a glancing header off Bright Anukani’s delivery from a corner kick.
The score should have been 3-1 by halftime but Kayondo squandered a great chance as his header, with the net glaring at him, only went off target.
On return, it only took seven minutes for the day’s visitors to stretch the lead to three with a brilliant Manzoki shot past custodian Micheal Nantamu.
At the hour-mark, Kayondo made amends for his first half miss with a clean finish off Anukani’s rebounded shot.
With 82 minutes played, Sentamu should have added a fifth but his tap in off a brilliant Paul Mucureezi pass moved inches wide.
Vipers are now second with 20 points after nine games. They are six points adrift of leaders KCCA FC who have played a game more. They will return to action on December 18 with a home encounter against Tooro United FC.
