Express 2-2 Vipers SC

Livingstone Mulondo grabbed a late equaliser to salvage a point against Express FC at Betway Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.

In a topsy-turvy game, we had looked to be in control after taking an early lead through Cesar Manzoki. But two mistakes in our defence were ruthlessly punished by Express, leaving us staring at the prospect of a first league defeat of the season.

But with virtually the very last corner kick of the game, substitute Mulondo was in the right place to tuck home the loose ball from close range when hosts defence fumbled.

In the end we had to settle for a point, but it looked like being so much more than that after a promising start. Having waited an extra couple of days to return to action after our game against SC Villa on Wednesday was postponed, we were raring to go early on, taking the game to Express from the off.

The early pressure soon paid off, and it was the skipper who got the opener.

Yunus Sentamu dribbled past one defender before his goal bound cross brushed off the crossbar for Manzoki who was in the right place to volley home.

It was no more than we deserved from a lively start.

We kept the intensity up, but Bobosi Byaruhanga’s looping ball, couldn’t extend our advantage, failing to build on the early lead.

In fact it was Express who slowly grew into the game, and the forward duo of Eric Kambale and Martin Kizza were beginning to unsettle our defence.

Defender Murushid Juuko and striker Kambale scored Express goals.

This was the first time in three matches Vipers, coached by Brazilian tactician Robertinho Oliveira, were dropping points.

They won their opening two games of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) with a combined scoreline of 7-0, Yunus Sentamu scoring four of those in a single match.

For coach Wasswa Bbosa (who was in the stands) and Express, this was their fourth point in as many games having lost two and won one.

The Venoms lie second on seven points, five behind leaders KCCA, who have played a game more.

Express are miles below in 10th on four points from as many games.

Vipers SC Starting XI: Fabien Mutombora, Paul Willa, Aziz Kayondo, Livingstone Mulondo, Bashir Asiku, Siraje Sentamu, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Milton Karisa, Bright Anukani, Yunus Sentamu, Cesar Manzoki.
