The Contest: Express FC v Vipers SC

The Time: 3PM

The Venue: Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku

Vipers SC visit Express FC at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku in what some regard as the first major test for both sides.

Form is expected to go out of the window as we fight for a positive result against Express FC whose start to the season has left a bitter taste for some.

While we have won our two games so far, Express FC lost two on the bounce before winning their third game.

“We have used the previous days since our last game against Wakiso Giants to prepare for our next match against Express FC well.” said assistant coach Marcelo Cardoso.

“So, the players have worked so hard and know the ultimate goal is to win the next game always.”

In our last visit to Wankulukuku early this year, Karim Watambala slotted home a well-taken equalizer as we claimed a point after falling behind to a goal from Godfrey Lwesimbawa.

Vipers and Express are meeting for the 30th time in Uganda’s league history since 2006 when the Venoms joined the top flight division. We have won 14, drawn 9 and lost 7 with a return of 37 goals against 20.

Head-To-Head

Meetings: 30

Vipers first ever victory over Express occurred on November 22, 2007 when Tony Odur scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Nakivubo stadium and the Venoms have gone on to dominate the fixture despite drawing (1-1) in the first round and losing (1-0) to Express FC last season.

Vipers are currently second on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League log with 6 points out of 2 matches played while Express are in 13th place having garnered 3 points from 3 games.

Team News:

There is good news on Halid Lwaliwa. The team captain resumed full training but his not yet fully fit , as the game against Express FC comes too early for him, but he is working hard on his fitness.

Second goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu suffered a torn muscle in his tricep and is in rehab after getting stitches.
