The Contest: Police FC v Vipers SC

The Time: 3PM

The Venue: MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo

Finally, after what has seemed like an eternity, Uganda Premier League (UPL) football is back as Vipers Sports Club travel to MTN Omondi Stadium to face Police FC on Sunday afternoon.

A lot has changed since our last UPL game on May 21 – 149 days ago. On that day, Vipers SC invaded Kavumba Recreational Center and beat Soltilo Bright Stars 1-0 before the league was ended prematurely to hand then-leaders Express FC the title with four games to spare, ending Vipers hopes of a fifth diadem.

It will be the first competitive league game for our new coach Roberto Oliviera known as Robertinho and his assistant Marcelo Cardoso. The Brazilians were unveiled on August 27, 2021.

This will be the 23rd meeting between the two sides since October 2010.

In the past 22 meetings, Vipers have won 14, Police five with the other three ending in draws.

Vipers come into the game unbeaten in their last seven matches against the Cops, winning all of them.

Despite having some setbacks, Robertinho has the solution in depth, strength and good numbers in his squad, he will be keen to unleash his ‘hungry to deliver’ troops against the Cops.

Team News:

Robertinho will be determined to keep the positivity coming in this match having beaten Police FC 2-0 earlier on in the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup on September 21 at Fufa Technical Center, Njeru. Before going on to demolish BUL FC 8-1 in the finals.

Nelito Tavares’ arrival also increases the attacking options for his head coach, who will feel confident switching to two up top if required, and to play a more counter-attacking style if he sees fit.

There is good news on Halid Lwaliwa. The team captain resumed full training but his not in the squad this weekend, as the game comes too early for him, but he is working hard on his fitness.

Yunus Sentamu who has sat out training for three days has an injury that will rule him out for some weeks. The injury will be assessed and scanned.
