FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers:
- October 7th, 2021 – Rwanda Vs Uganda Cranes – Nyamirambo Stadium, Kigali
- October 10th, 2021 – Uganda Cranes Vs Rwanda – St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Vipers Sports Club defender Livingstone Mulondo has received his first ever call-up to the Uganda Cranes squad, ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier double header against Rwanda.
The flying-defender could be in-line to make his international debut when Milutin Sredojevic Micho’s side travel to Kigali next week to face Rwanda on Thursday, October 7th.
Two days later, the Cranes will then host the Amavubi Stars at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende in a return leg.
Mulondo, who missed the majority of the 2019/20 and half 2020/21 football season through injury he sustained in 2019 returned to the Vipers SC first-team fold last season.
Nicknamed C4, Mulondo has admitted he was a little surprised to have been called into the Cranes squad.
“I don’t think l was expecting to get into the Cranes squad, even before the season has started,” Mulondo told Vipers Media.
“I thought it would take quite a while, to be honest, but maybe l got lucky, l don’t know. I’m very happy and just grateful for the opportunity. I’m a player who doesn’ttake anything for granted, so hopefully l can go there, do well and just get some games even if it’s one game, l don’t mind. I’m just so happy. ”
And the 25-year-old impressed Cranes head Micho in two games of the just concluded Uganda Cup to hand him his maiden call-up to the senior ranks.
Meanwhile, other Venoms; Paul Willa, Aziz Kayondo, Bobosi Byaruhanga, David Bagoole, Ibrahim Orit, Milton Karisa and Yunus Sentamu are among the Cranes provisional 33 man squad.
The Uganda Cranes will be aiming to make it to their ever first World Cup finals.
Everyone at Vipers SC would like to congratulate Mulondo on this fantastic news, following what has been a tough two seasons for him as a result of his injury.
