Vipers Sports Club forward Yunus Sentamu didn’t a louder re-introduction to the Ugandan football scene.

The quick-footed striker put in a scintillating performance to take home the 2020-21 StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) Top Scorer’s gong with 16 goals and four beautiful assists.

Sentamu was deservedly rewarded with a Golden Boot and a Shs1m cash prize.

Second Coming

Before this monogamous haul this season, Sentamu had been on a prowl. He had spells in Democratic Republic of Congo (AS Vita), Tunisia (CS Sfaxien), Albania (FC Tirana) and Finland (Tampereen Ilves).

Having missed the start of the season where he skipped three league matches and two duels in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League preliminary round, Sentamu kicked off the season in style with a brace and an assist during the 7-0 humiliation of MYDA at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

He has since shared how he has kept fit during the lengthy lapse of not being engaged in competitive football.

Staying Abreast

“I thank Allah, my family, Vipers family and the technical team for the support. Personally, I remained focused in training sessions because I had it in mind that I would return to competitive football,” Sentamu confessed.

Sentamu sings special praise for the management of Vipers Sports Club that gave him a second opportunity to serve.

“I thank the management of Vipers Sports Club for the opportunity to play again at this great club. Even when my family members pushed me to sign here and there, I remained put and Vipers offered the chance that I embraced with open hands” he adds.

Priceless Exposure

Sentamu revels in the exposure he enjoyed during the professional stints in DRC, Tunisia, Albania and Finland.

Particularly, he highlights the time spent in Albania that exposed him to real competition in football, a big impetus to his football career.

“Football in Albania was very competitive in every aspect. Even to score a goal, it was never an easy feat. Clubs were very defensive and this opened my football mind wider” the former St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School student recounted.

Future prospects

Sentamu reflects positively about the 2020-21 season in Uganda when he emerged top scorer in an epoch disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic second wave.

He strongly asserts that the superb performance from the previous season will be a conveyor belt and a stepping step to the upcoming seasons.

“My performance from the previous season will definitely push me to the future times ahead. I want to inspire Vipers to the league crown next season,” Sentamu projects while making it clear that he will stay at Vipers.

Vipers completed the 2020-21 season in third place with 56 points after 26 matches with four unplayed games due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
