Bright Stars FC 0-1 Vipers SC

A 45th minute strike from Bobosi Byaruhanga gave us a richly-deserved three points at Kavumba Recreational Grounds as we bounced back to winning ways.

We were the more positive side right from the opening exchanges, snapping into tackles and closing down well, and much of the opening quarter of an hour was played in the Soltilo Bright Stars FC half.

Our first sight of goal came when the overlapping Aziz Kayondo fizzed a low ball across goal, but it was just ahead of the sliding Cesar Manzoki at the far post.

Despite our superiority in terms of possession, it was Bright Stars who had the first shot on target when Joseph Janjali ghosted in at the far post to draw a smart low save from Bashir Ssekagya.

We kept driving forward. Cesra Manzoki had the ball nicked off his head inside the area when Brights Stars goalkeeper Simon Tamale miscalculated a cross while Karim Watambala made a brilliant run just outside the edge of the box before pulling a shot at goal that was inches wide.

But the best chance of the half came late on in the 43rd minute when Aziz Kayondo was brought down in the area but Yunus Sentamu strode up to tuck it wide.

We certainly deserved the lead when it came. We had been knocking at the door and finally went ahead at the stroke of halftime thanks to Byaruhanga who looped the ball high in the air and straight over the Bright Stars goalkeeper Tamale, who was off his line and could do nothing but make a failed attempt at stopping the brilliant goal.

After a pretty cautious first period from both teams, the pace of the second was upped from the off, mainly down to some good pressing from Bright Stars. Thereafter, proceedings remained pretty tight as we looked to stretch our lead in the final minutes but the Venoms held out for the victory until the final whistle.
