STARTIMES UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Vipers SC v URA FC
Wednesday, May 12, 2021
St Mary’s Stadium | 4:00pm
Vipers Sports Club league campaign resumes on Wednesday just two days after a crucial away victory against the Kasasiro lads over the weekend at Lugogo.
The Venoms thus prepare for the tax collectors visit in buoyant moods as a win in this fixture propells us to the table leadership with seven games to wind up the football league season.
This crunch clash therefore means a lot and very significant in our quest to defend the league crown however, in URA we are up against a well oiled opposition and it’s going to be a tough call especially if the previous outings with the visiting opponents are anything to go.
- Vipers and URA are going to meet for the 32nd time in Uganda’s top league history since 2006 when the Venoms joined the top flight division. We have won 6, drawn 11 and lost 14 with a return of 30 goals against 41.
Head-To-Head
Meetings: 31
Vipers wins: 6
Draws: 11
Losses: 14
Goals for: 30
Against: 41
Points: 29
- Out of the 15 meetings between the two teams at Vipers home, the Venoms have registered 4 wins only, 3 draws and 8 losses scoring a meagre 15 goals as well as conceding 20 in the process.
- The corresponding encounter at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende, ended 1-0 in Vipers’ favour after Kenyan import Innocent Wafula assisted Dan Muzeeyi Sserunkuma for the day’s only goal in a hotly contested encounter.
- Vipers first ever victory over URA occurred on April 28th, 2011 in a 1-0 win via Joseph Mpande after 11 fruitless attempts and URA has gone on to dominate the fixture up to date hence the Venoms have a huge task at hand.
- In the previous 5 matches hosted by Vipers, the league defending champions command 2 wins, 1 draw with 2 losses scoring 5 goals against 5 in the process.
2015/16: Vipers 1-1 URA
2016/17: Vipers 1-0 URA
2017/18: Vipers 1-2 URA
2018/19: Vipers 1-2 URA
2019/20: Vipers 1-0 URA
- Of all the 16 teams playing in Uganda’s top flight division currently, it’s only URA which holds a better head to head against the Venoms as they always inflict misery on us irrespective of any form they might be in.
- Vipers are occupying second position on the league log with 49 points out of 22 matches played, one point behind URA who are leading the log having garnered 50 points from the same number of games.
- Vipers secured a crucial 2-1 victory against KCCA FC in the last fixture away at Lugogo while URA overcame Onduparaka 3-1 at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje.
- Shafiq Kuchi Kagimu reserves his best for Vipers as he has scored in both of URA’s two previous wins at St Marys Stadium and commands 3 goals in the past 5 fixtures between the two teams making him a real threat to the Venoms backline.
- At home, Vipers has lost only once against Express, drawn once with Wakiso Giants and winning all the other 9 matches hosted at the St Mary’s stadium this season.
- However, away from home, URA is also a different animal altogether having lost only to Express, drawn thrice against Mbarara City, SC Villa and Soltilo Bright Stars FC, winning the remaining 8 matches on the road.
With such kind of history and being a top of the table clash, it’s bound to be an explosive encounter therefore u can only miss if you must.
