Its a big one, its a battle of Uganda’s football giants as Vipers Sports Club confront rivals KCCA in a Startimes Uganda Premier League fixture on the road this Sunday at Lugogo as pursuit of the league crown intensifies.

With nine matches to wind up the league, the Venoms have kept up incredible momentum and go into this tie lying second behind table leaders URA hence this fixture means a lot in pursuit of retaining the league title.

Vipers head into this encounter on the back of a morale boosting 4-0 win over struggling MYDA away in Tororo having earlier suffered a setback with a 1-0 loss to Express at Kitende.

Ahead of a hectic 10 days where Vipers are to face KCCA, URA & SC Villa in succession, this is a make or break tie which will either ruin or boost our title ambitions thus need to be handled with extra care.

The victory over MYDA was a timely boost ahead of this mouth watering contest against KCCA and our title credentials are up to a stern test as the Kasasiro lads will also desperately fight to cover lost ground in the title race

The Opposition:

KCCA FC finds itself at a point of no return when they entertain Vipers, with nine points separating the two teams as we head towards the finishing line, an outright win is a must to them since a loss completely extinguishes their slim title hopes.

At Lugogo, the Kasasiro lads are a different animal altogether for its a fortress where visiting teams rarely pick maximum points, out of the 10 matches at Lugogo this season, they boost seven wins, a draw and only two losses against URA and Soltilo Bright Stars.

Newly-appointed gaffer Morley Byekwaso has at his disposal, a youthful star studded squad to pick from but in Vipers, he is facing a well oiled opponent capable of overcoming any opposition.

Last meeting at Lugogo

KCCA 1-0 Vipers

The corresponding league fixture at the Startimes stadium Lugogo, ended 1-0 in favour of KCCA courtesy of Muzamiru Mutyaba’s strike in a tightly contested engagement which had all the ingredients of a classic match.

Form:

Both teams have had mixed results from their previous 5 matches suffering some setbacks along the way therefore this is a game they can’t afford to lose making it a do-or-die engagement.

Team News:

Only Dan Sserunkuma and Ahmed Amayo remain absent for the Venoms.

The rest of the squad is healthy and fit for duty hence there will be selection headache for head coach Fred Kajoba.

Richard Basangwa is in fine condition and has been included in the match day squad after shaking off a minor knock that kept him out of the Uganda cup tie against UPDF last week.

The Coach’s View:

“There can not be a better time for this fixture than now, we are set and will be keen on building on the recent good run we have away from home.
“The ambitions are there, of course, and we have been here before and know what to do – we need to get positive results and we can do so by creating chances, taking them and scoring goals.”

“We are not under any pressure whatsoever because we take a game at a time, what happened weeks back is history, we want to now focus on a different game tomorrow . We have the chance to turn things around and it’s a good and special match to do so.”
