STARTIMES UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Date: April 20, 2021
Venue: St Mary’s Stadium
Time: 4pm
Vipers will endeavour to keep their home record and prospects of retaining the league title alive when they host Wakiso Giants at the St Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday evening in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
The hosts come into this game with an impressive performance on their home turf where they have not lost a game since January 17, 2020 when they fell 1-0 to nemesis SC Villa.
In fact, since Fred Kajoba took charge in February 2020, the Venoms are yet to suffer defeat and have subsequently turned the St Mary’s Stadium into a fortress of sorts.
This season alone, Vipers have won all the nine league games at home scoring 24 goals and conceding just three in the process plus there has been clean sheets kept in their last five straight matches.
“We are working extremely hard to improve our game both on home turf and away. It is not something easy because each game comes with different dimensions but we are impressed so far,” the Vipers head coach stated.
“I don’t want to pay so much attention to the home record, instead I want to focus on a game at a time plus other tasks ahead of us. If we can keep doing things better and manage every situation, then victory over our opponents will be a possibility.”
The reverse fixture played at the Wakisha Resource Center in Wakiso ended in a one-all stalemate, a game where the reigning champions would have picked maximum points had Ibrahim Orit buried the two second half chances with the goalkeeper to beat.
However, the hosts will be taking no chances against a side that has proven to be stubborn in their last three meetings. Vipers has won just once and drawn twice with the Purple Sharks.
Both sides come into this tie off victories; the visitors beat Onduparaka FC 2-0 at home while Vipers SC dispatched Kitara FC 3-0 away in Masindi last Friday but there is concern for Douglas Bamweyana’s side’s performance on the road.
In their last five trips, they have only picked one victory. They defeated BUL FC 1-0 in Bugembe over a month ago.
