4pm |St Mary’s stadium- Kitende

Vipers will be eager to make a good start in this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup when they host fellow StarTimes Uganda Premier League side Busoga United FC in the first leg of the round of 32 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Monday, April 5, 2021.

This year’s competition is quite unique because only Fufa Big League and Premier League sides will be the ones playing on a home and away basis because of Covid 19 hindrance hence drama and surprises are expected to happen.

Vipers are coming into this tie on a back of a 3-0 away win at UPDF FC in the UPL last Friday and are oozing confidence after regaining their top spot.

The Venoms were knocked out by Kajjansi United at this stage in the last Uganda Cup edition therefore they will be determined to turn the tide this around and get past the Jinja based side.

Meanwhile Busoga United are coming into this game with four back to back wins in the league. They have bounced back quite well and the 2-0 win over Onduparaka FC last time out will give alot of confidence to Abbey Kikomeko’s men ahead of this monumental clash.

Both sides met earlier in the league where Vipers thumped Busoga 5-3 away in Njeru and Kikomeko will be eager to spark a surprise in the Uganda Cup.

Ahead of this round of 32 cup tie, the Venoms head coach has rallied his team come mentally set for this crucial fixture.

“We are happy the boys started the week well but we cannot rest because we have another task before us to complete.” said Fred Kajoba.

“This game will not be that easy, we beat them last December but a lot has changed in their team – they are good going forward and can be dangerous sometimes. So, we have to come hungrier and tougher than we did last time.”

“We are happy all our players who have been injured for sometime are back and ready to play. Hopefully their return is timely and will boast the squad’s confidence as we continue the season.” added Kajoba.

The Venoms must win the first leg with a convincing goal margin before they travel to Jinja for the second league on Friday.

Jamil Kalisa is still ruled out as he has just resumed training after recovering from a fever.
