UPL Fixture: Vipers vs MYDA FC
Date: February 6, 2021
Time: 3pm (Live on Sanyuka TV)
Venue: St Mary’s Stadium

Champions Vipers host StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) newcomers MYDA Football Club as they look to build on their three-match unbeaten run.

Prior to the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) break last December, the Venoms had beaten Kitara and Busoga United and drew with Wakiso Giants in their opening league games garnering seven points from a possible nine.

And, they will be aiming to keep the momentum and produce a good performance versus the league new comers.

On the other hand, the visitors have had a harsh welcome to the top flight where they have won none one of their last four games and have conceded atleast twice in each of their four matches.

Fred Kajoba will be hoping to have most of the team available for him. Yunus Sentamu provides a bonus going forward as the striker made a timely return to the club for a second time having signed a two year deal last month.

For Vipers, the primary task is to defend their league crown, but a continuing frailty in defence is a real concern they must deal with. They have already leaked 5 goals and scored 8 in three games; a tally that needs an immediate remedy.

It’s the work we’ve been doing on the pitch for weeks now and its been going well. we’ve to score and equally defend well.” explained Kajoba.

The goals we have conceded are avoidable and we are hoping to do better, plus the boys are already aware of the importance of maintaining a clean sheet.”

Victory for Kajoba’s side will greatly boost the confidence and morale of the team going into the away encounter against Express FC next Tuesday.

Team News:

Kajoba has the luxury of a fit and healthy squad to choose from and enough to make the desired rotation except for Milton Karisa who has a thigh injury he picked while on National duty with Uganda Cranes away in Cameroon.

Relatedly Aziz Kayondo, Ivan Asaba, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Najib Yiga and Richard Basangwa have commitments with the Uganda U-20 hence are unavailable.

Team skipper Halid Lwaliwa, Ibrahim Orit, Karim Watambala, Paul Willa and Shaban Muhammad are available for duty after training with the team.

Livingstone Mulondo may make his debut since 2019 after recovering from a knee problem. The center back has been impressive in the build up matches and may return if selected.

Yunus Sentamu will make his first appearance for the Venoms after returning for a second spell in the just concluded January window.

In the same vein, Congolese striker Ceasar Manzoki returns after making full recovery from an head injury and fever.
