We have a team news update ahead of Tuesday’s Uganda Premier League match against KCCA FC:

Injuries derail many a career and even when they heal, the athletes arguably never get to play with the same finesse and quality like before. Most hurting is that the injuries leave recurring psychological effects on the respective athletes.

We have had a catalogue of casualties in seasons before and this current one. But at Vipers, we leave no stone unturned in helping the affected athletes gain full recovery in whatever duration as stipulated by the medics.

Shaban’s long wait

Having been signed and unveiled in August 2019 on a two-year deal from Moroccan outfit Raja Casablanca, Shaban Muhammad has stayed on the sidelines without any action, albeit with some promise now.

Shaban faced the knife to finally rectify his long-suffering knee injury last November and the Cranes international is still yet to return to competitive football.

Team Physiotherapist, Mathius Kassagga accessing Muhammed Shaban’s hamstring.

Team Physiotherapist, Mathius Kassagga however offers a ray of hope that Shaban is responding positively to the recovery routine and could be fit to play in a couple of weeks.

“He is now in the rehabilitation stage. His condition has continued to improve. He has responded well to the strength and conditioning programs and will hopefully play soon, ” explained Kassagga.

Shaban who has been undergoing special strength and conditioning workouts since his surgery at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende gym looks ready to re-ignite his soccer career.

Shaban, who responding positively to the recovery routine could be fit to play in a couple of weeks.

The forward is the third player at the club to undergo surgery to repair a recurring knee problem after skipper Halid Lwaliwa and Geoffrey Wasswa.

Musisi’s injury

Meanwhile, Farouk Musisi will certainly miss a series of games as he recovers from a knee injury that he suffered in the 1-0 triumph over Onduparaka.

The first assessment of the injury indicated that a surgery was necessary but later scan tests proved otherwise that the left back didn’t have to undergo the knife.

Left back Farouk Musisi going through a series of rehabilitation exercises.

Kassagga has put Musisi under a series of rehabilitation exercises and the defender will definitely need sometime out before making a return to coach Fred Kajoba’s side.

“Musisi needs special exercises to first bring stability in his left knee before he can embark on the next stage of recovery,” said Kassagga.

And as the club engages high gear in its bid to win the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) this season, there is good news from Kitende to feed on with the trio of Halid Lwaliwa, Karim Watambala and Siraje Ssentamu all back to full training with the rest of the Venoms after shaking off their respective injuries.

The three core members of the squad played in Friday’s friendly against Eron Academy that Vipers won 9-0. Halid featured for an hour, Ssentamu put in a shift for 50 minutes and Watambala played a full stanza.

The trio will be available for selection in our penultimate game against close challengers KCCA next Tuesday at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
