Stanbic Uganda Cup: Round of 64

The Date: January 22, 2020

The Contest: Kajjansi United vs Vipers SC

The Time: 4pm

The Venue: Wankulukuku stadium

Cup contests are always a different ball game. One slip and you’re shown the exit door. But despite the Cup’s nature, Vipers SC coach Edward Golola is set to play to the script by ringing the changes against Buganda Regional League side Kajjansi United in the Uganda Cup Round of 64 encounter at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Wednesday.

Team skipper Halid Lwaliwa, Bashir Asiku and Siraje Ssentamu are all set to miss out with injuries and family functions but Brian Nkuubi, Tito Okello and Abraham Ndugwa are slated to make a return to the side.

Following the defeat to bitter rivals SC Villa last Friday at the St Mary’s Stadium – Kitende, the Venoms should be in the mood to return the winning feeling to the unit with an improved performance and forthwith seal their progression through to the Round of 32.

But the gaffer knows his opponents will be hungry to claim a famous scalp and has thus challenged his Vipers outfit to show their true credentials by exhibiting positiveness throughout the match.

“It is important is to forget what happened last Friday against SC Villa,” Golola said.

“We have put that in the past and our focus now is on the task at hand. This is a different game, a different competition and it will be tough.”

“We have to be motivated if we are to go far, this is a knockout competition that gives you no second chance when you fumble, but you have to perform at your best if you want to win.”

Kajjansi United is quite familiar with Vipers, both having faced off in two friendly build up matches during the off-season.

However this will be the first time both teams will be meeting at a competitive level and the Venoms will be eager to keep the record at 100 percent.

Team news:

Injured skipper Lwaliwa has been given time off from club duties to pay the last respects to his departed mother (RIP).

Ndugwa returns from a knee injury and will look to seize the initiative. The forward has missed all the three Uganda Premier League second round games against Kyetume, Proline and SC Villa.

Nkuubi and Okello are finally available for selection after missing the encounters against Proline and SC Villa.

Aziz Kayondo has also recovered from a bout of malaria but will be subjected to a late fitness test.
