STARTIMES UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
FRIDAY’S RESULT
Vipers SC 0-1 SC Villa
Despite the defeat, we remain top of the league standings on 42 points although the lead was reduced to four points following second-placed KCCA FC’s 1-0 over Tooro United at the StarTimes Stadium.
We were subjected to a second loss of the season by SC Villa on Friday afternoon at St Mary’s Stadium.
We had lost only to KCCA FC in the entire campaign but failed to get going throughout the entire 90 minutes enabling Villa to apply the telling damage.
We paid dearly for our slow start, falling to Bashir Mutanda’s second-half strike and found Villa’s defence too compact to break even when we increased the tempo.
Mutanda headed in Derrick Ndahiro’s delivery off the upright following a counter-attack that Villa relied on, in the whole match.
We only came close to scoring when Paul Mucureezi’s shot was cleared off the line by Villa defender Moses Kiggundu towards the end of the first half.
In the second half, we tried to pile pressure but were not clinical enough on the day with Villa goalkeeper Saidi Keni also proving a hard nut to crack in goal.
The introduction of Daniel Sserunkuma in the second half added some life in our attack but Villa’s defence stood firm with goalkeeper Keni also applying time-wasting tactics very well.
With time starting to run out, Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye was introduced to replace Mucureezi.
We got another chance to equalise through Fahad Bayo but he could only force Keni into a comfortable save from a good position.
This was Villa’s second victory in our own backyard following their 3-1 win last season 2018/2019. Despite the defeat, we remain top of the league standings on 42 points although our lead was reduced to four points following second-placed KCCA FC’s 1-0 over Tooro United.
