AFCON 2021 QUALIFIER

Sunday’s Result

Uganda 2-0 Malawi

Striker Fahad Aziz Bayo scored as Uganda overcame Malawi on Sunday at Mandela National Stadium in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Venom who was making his first senior national team appearance scored the second goal after Emmanuel Okwi had opened the scores.

Bayo was one of the three changes from the team that drew goalless against Burkina Faso in midweek. The other changes saw William Luwagga Kizito and Nicholas Wadada starting in places of Abdu Lumala and Timothy Awany.

Okwi opened the scores at the half hour mark when he calmly controlled Joseph Ochaya’s cross before firing into the back of the net.

Bayo’s moment came in the 66th minute when he dispossessed Lucky Malata just after the halfway line and he did no mistake to slot home.

The striker indicted this was a dream come true because he has always longed to play for the senior national team.

“I thank Allah for the goal but most importantly that we won the game. I appreciate the coaches and my teammates for the trust. Of course it is a dream come true for me to score for the national team and I believe this will motivate me in the next games.”
