Coach Edward Golola believes having a big squad is important for any team that has targets and indicated this has helped us to remain unbeaten in the league so far.
The manager asserted that players in the current squad all have the ability to perform if given the chance to play.
In our win against URA FC, five starters were missing but the Venoms held on to secure maximum points.
Striker Fahad Bayo and skipper Halid Lwaliwa were with the Uganda Cranes on national team duty, same as Fabien Mutombora with Burundi while Bobosi Byaruhanga and Abdul Karim Watambala are doing their Senior six examinations.
Derrick Ochan replaced Mutombora in goal, Geoffrey Wasswa made his first start this season playing alongside Bashir Asiku at the heart of defence, Dan Sserunkuma started as the lead striker and scored in the absence of Bayo while Abraham Ndugwa and Rahmat Ssenfuka replaced Watambala and Byaruhanga respectively.
About Squad depth…
“It is important to us to have a big squad with players that have the ability to perform. Against URA FC, this was shown. I believe this will help us in achieving our target because we may miss players due to injuries or other commitments but if we have players that can fill voids, that is satisfying.”
About Wasswa making his first start…
“It was bad that at the time when he was trying to establish himself, he got an injury that side-lined him for a long period. But we are impressed to see him slowly regaining his composure and we do not want to rush him. Against URA FC, he played well and showed no signs of struggle meaning he is now back to full fitness.”
About Tito Okello….
“He is one of our players and very impactful. He may have struggled to get playing time but we know what he adds to the team. He gives us a lot going forward and we know he will keep fighting for his place on the team.”
About our next game against KCCA FC…
“This is a game that pits the best two teams in the league but we are not in panic mode. We will handle it like any other game we have played. We shall go there with full focus and commitment to make sure we get the result we want.”
