Vipers SC v Wakiso Giants FC
St Mary’s Stadium, 4pm
With every week that passes, the tension ramps up across the Uganda Premier League (UPL) – and that’s especially true in the race for the top spot.
It will be those sides capable of holding their nerve who will prevail. The poise we showed on Saturday against Busoga United at the Mighty Arena in Jinja to snatch the three points at the death spoke of a team determined to continue their charge.
The result meant we moved to 27 points from 11 games with four games to spare to the end of the first round of the UPL.
14 points separate us and the visitors and a win over Wakiso Giants FC will further frustrate their maiden stay in the top flight which had initially looked promising.
The Opposition:
The Purple Sharks are currently struggling for form; a humiliating 3-0 defeat to the Red Eagles at the Wakisha play grounds last Saturday was their third loss in a row and showed that coach Kefa Kisala had lost control of matters and subsequently got fired before replacing him with former player Steven Bengo.
Wakiso Giants last four matches:
Wakiso Giants 2-1 Mbarara City
SC Villa 2-0 Wakiso Giants
Police FC 2-1 Wakiso Giants
Wakiso Giants 0-3 Express FC
This encounter is expected to be an intense one as the visitors seek revival while the Venoms will be eager to continue their good run.
Meanwhile Vipers head coach Edward Golola has cautioned his players to be mindful of their opponents and asked them to forget about the past game.
“Everyone has talked about how we have been the better side going by the recent results but our opponents are hungrier for victory now than before.”
“They have good players and we know they will come seeking for redemption but we shall not take them lightly either, we shall take the game to them.”
Team News:
Innocent Wafula resumed training after overcoming a knock but is doubtful for this encounter.
Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye is still out recovering from a bout but will soon be back in training.
