Saturday’s Result
Onduparaka 0-0 Vipers
Our unbeaten run in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) extended to nine games this season following Saturday’s goalless draw against Onduparaka FC at the Green Light stadium in Arua.
In a closely contested affair, the Venoms settled for a point to stretch their lead at the top of the table on 21 points.
Fresh from winning 2-1 against BUL FC on Tuesday, the Venoms made a daunting trip to West Nile seeking for their first win on the road against the Caterpillars.
Despite getting the better scoring chances on the day, the Venoms failed to find the breakthrough and the game eventually ended in a barren stalemate.
Coach Edward Golola made just one change from the team that played against BUL FC with Brian Kalumba replacing Dan ‘Muzeyi’ Sserunkuma.
Goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora was fouled by Onduparaka’s Julius Maliamungu just five minutes after kick-off but he came back to his feet a few minutes after receiving medical attention.
Our first change of the game fell to right back Paul Willa when he curled from a free kick but his attempt sailed a few inches wide.
Willa made a lung bursting run to tee up Fahad Bayo but the lethal striker’s powerful header was off target.
Midfielder Fraink ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye seemed to have been fouled inside the area in the 27th minute but centre referee Ronald Madanda was not interested and waved for play on.
Bayo got more chances in the second stanza but failed to put them away including a one on one situation against goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa in the 76th minute.
Golola made changes in the second stanza bringing on two debutants Henry Kitegenyi and Ashraf ‘Fadiga’ Mugume to replace Kalumba and ‘Zaga’ respectively while Briab Nkuubi replaced Allan Kayiwa.
Mutombora came to our rescue with nine minutes to play when he made a fine save to put out Vitalis Tabu’s free kick.
Mugume nearly gave us maximum points with a thunderous effort but the home side once again were saved by goalkeeper Wasswa who was brilliant on the day.

Our next game will come on Tuesday October 29 away to Kyetume FC at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.
