Tuesday’s Result

Vipers SC 2-1 BUL FC

A goal apiece from Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye and Allan Kayiwa guided us to victory against BUL FC and eventually helped us to ascend to the summit of the league table.

In one of our games in hand, the Venoms put up a spirited performance on Tuesday at home to overcome BUL FC winning the game 2-1.

The game came at the time when our opponents BUL FC were enjoying a rich form that saw them travel to St. Mary’s stadium, top of the table on 19 points.

However, with determination backed by commitment from the players, we were able to secure maximum points and go top of the table on 20 points.

Head coach Edward Golola made just two changes from the team that started against Express FC before the international break with Siraje Ssentamu returning after recovering from an injury.

Tumwesigye replaced injured Abdul Karim Watambara and did not disappoint giving us the lead at the 20th minute mark.

Despite being a diminutive player, Tumwesigye alias Zaga dashed to the near post to head home from Bobos Byaruhanga’s corner kick delivery.

Eight minutes later, Kayiwa doubled the lead curling home from a free kick after striker Fahad Bayo had been fouled outside the area.

The visitors pulled one back through Deogratious Ojok before the break and goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora denied him in the second stanza as the Venoms remained composed to seal maximum points.

Utility player Geoffrey Wasswa returned after a long time and featured for the first time when he replaced Tumwesigye in the 62nd minute.

Wasswa who was a key figure last season, sustained an injury that has kept him on the side-lines for a long time.

The other changes on the day saw Dan Sserunkuma and Kayiwa pave way for Brian Kalumba and Abraham Ndugwa respectively.

The Venoms will return to action on Saturday (October 26) with a trip to Arua to face Onduparaka FC at the Greenlight Stadium.
