The StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) resumes on Tuesday after the second international break with quite a number of rescheduled matches on card.
It will be a top of the table affair at St Mary’s stadium Kitende when current leaders BUL FC confront three time champions Vipers Sports club on the road in what promises to be an exciting encounter tomorrow.
- When Vipers hosts BUL in that crunch SUPL tie, it will be the 17th time both teams are meeting in their eight year history and looking at the journey statistically, the Venoms are ahead having won 9 times, drawn on 5 occasions and lost just 2, scoring 18 goals against 8 in the previous 16 league encounters between the two clubs.
Head-To-Head
Meetings: 16
Vipers wins: 9
Draws: 5
Losses: 2
Goals for: 18
Against: 8
Points: 32
- Both clubs have had change of names for rebranding purposes as Vipers was previously Bunamwaya SC until 2012 while BUL joined the top flight league during the 2011/2012 football season as BIDCO football club before changing to the current name before the 2012/13 league kick off.
- The first ever meeting between the two football clubs, occurred on November 22, 2011 at Kakindu stadium ending in a pulsating 2-2 and Tuesday will mark exactly 7 years 11 months since our first meeting.
- BUL’s first triumph against Vipers came during the 2013/14 second round 2-1 win at Kakindu Stadium and by then, Kefa Kisala who is now managing Wakiso Giants, was in charge of the team.
- Looking back at the previous meetings, BUL gives us difficult times whenever we meet thus our ties are always closely contested keeping fans of either side on toes as well as being hard to predict and its bound to be the same old story even this time basing on how good they have started this season.
Previous 5 home meetings:
2014/15:- Vipers 1-0 BUL
2015/16:- Vipers 0-1 BUL
2016/17:- Vipers 1-0 BUL
2017/18:- Vipers 1-0 BUL
2018/19:- Vipers 1-0 BUL
- The Venoms have beaten the oil producers convincingly on only one occasion during Ceasar Okhuti’s era when his brace led to a 3-0 win at Buikwe in 2012 shortly after the team returned from Sudan where we had travelled to play friendlies against Al Amal Atbara and Al Ahly Shandi overcoming the former in a 2-0 win before succumbing to a 1-0 loss at the hands of the latter.
- BUL has only managed one win out of the previous 8 visits at Vipers hence will be looking for their second ever victory in the Venoms territory.
- The corresponding fixture at St Mary’s stadium ended 1-0 in Vipers favour courtesy of a brilliant Brian Nkuubi blockbuster from 40 yards to silence our stubborn opponents.
- BUL are coming into this fixture in bouyant moods as they lead the 16-team log with 19 points two ahead of Vipers who lie in second position, they defeated Tooro United 2-1 away in their last fixture while the Venoms saw off Express in a 3-0 victory. Therefore the visitors will give the game their whole to continue with their impressive run.
This league tie therefore represents Coach Edward Golola and his troops an opportune moment to continue with our dominance against the Jinja based side thus it remains to be seen who will come out victorious as all roads should lead to Kitende for this mouthwatering clash on Tuesday.
Miss the tie if you must otherwise a titanic clash is on the cards.
