Championship of African Nations (CHAN) Qualifier
This Saturday
Uganda v Burundi
StarTimes Stadium, 4pm
Fine start to the season at club level for Abdul Karim Watambara has been rewarded as the youngster joins other four Venoms in Abdallah Mubiru’s squad for the upcoming Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifier this weekend.
The industrious central midfielder has continued to be an important figure for us this season since making his debut in the Pilsner Super 8 tournament against Proline FC in August.
His ability to orchestrate proceedings in the midfield has attracted the attention of Cranes technical team thus summoning him in the provisional squad that started preparations on Sunday ahead of the return leg against Burundi this Saturday at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
The other Venoms summoned include skipper Halid Lwaliwa and right back Paul Willa who have been regular for the national team in recent engagements.
The others are Dan Muzeyi Sserunkuma and Fahad Aziz Bayo who leads the scoring charts in the Uganda Premier League with six goals this season.
Uganda won the first leg 3-0 away in Bujumbura last month and will seek to complete the job on October 19 in Kampala to seal qualifying to the final tournament that will be staged in Cameroon next year.
The Cranes will be seeking to qualify for the final tournament for the 5th straight edition since making their maiden appearance in 2011.
