StarTimes Uganda Premier League
Wednesday’s Result
SC Villa 0-0 Vipers SC
We maintained our unbeaten start to the Uganda Premier League season as we played out a thrilling goalless draw with SC Villa at Namboole Stadium on Wednesday night.
In a game littered with chances, brilliant goalkeeping and some defensive mistakes, it was almost beyond belief that neither side could carve out a victory.
The Jogoos dominated the first half but found goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora in magnificent form saving miraculously from Ambrose Kirya and fumbled to hold Bashir Mutanda’s shot.

In the 10th minute, we were lucky to escape unscathed after a nervous moment inside our box, but Mutanda was denied by the post from 12 yards out.
We were presented with an opportunity to draw first blood from the set-piece after Fahad Bayo was brought down just outside the area, but left back Aziz Kayondo’s free kick was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Saidi Keni.
Vipers regrouped and dominated much of the second half, Bayo hitting the post and Keni producing a fine reflex save from Sserunkuma.
Abraham Ndugwa also struck at goal in the last 20 minutes – and while Vipers’ opportunities didn’t break SC villa’s goalkeeper, they were furious that Sserunkuma wasn’t awarded a penalty when he was cleared fouled by Keni in the box.

In the 60th minute, we had the ball in the back of the net, but Sserunkuma was denied by the offside flag. Moments later, he had his shot cleared off the line by Villa captain Asuman Harishe.
We kept on the front foot, and could have gone ahead, after a defensive mix up by Villa defenders, but Sserunkuma’s chip was headed off the line by defender Garvin Magweeri Kizito.
That was the final act of note in a thrilling encounter in which we showed real character, but just couldn’t quite find a winner. Vipers SC head coach Edward Golola was pleased by the character shown by his side after a difficult first half.

WHAT’S NEXT
We now head into a two day break, before returning to action at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, October 5th against Proline FC.
