Vipers continued to tune themselves up with a trial match against Super Eagles of Gulu at the Pece Stadium on Saturday evening where they won 3-0 thanks to goals from Henry Kitegenyi, Brian Kalumba and Tito Okello.
The Venoms, who begin their 2019/20 Uganda Premier League campaign on August 30 against Bright Stars FC at Wankulukuku Stadium, showed they are set for the new campaign with a dominant display. They have not lost any game since they started pre-season in early June.
”We are really working hard in everything we do,” said coach Edward Golola. “The trainings, the systems and methods are all coming to fruition and you can see this through the games we have played.”
“The boys have played a couple of games and opponents of various qualities and have approached them with positivity and determination. To us, it’s a sign of tremendous progress going into the new season.”
Edward Golola, Vipers SC head Coach
Golola acknowledged that playing at Pece Stadium was ideal preparation for his group.
“We feel the ground is almost similar to Wankulukuku in many aspects. We think we got the perfect picture ahead of our encounter with Bright Stars.”
Vipers have played Kazo United, Friends of Football, Aigle Nior from Burundi and Mawokota among many other sides this pre-season. The Venoms also knocked Proline FC and Mbarara City FC out of the Pilsner Super 8 quarters and semis respectively.
Golola was also impressed with his recruits. “We brought in new players and am pleased with the way the lads have blended in. We have given every player chance to play and seen what system works best and everything is shaping according to plan.”
The coach noted that the club are also keeping tabs on the players who have always been part of the group.
“We are monitoring the progress of Livingstone Mulondo and Geoffrey Wasswa, who are recovering from injuries and hope the pair will join us pretty soon.”
