StarTimes Uganda Premier League
Paidha Black Angels FC v Vipers SC
4.30pm
Bar Okoro Stadium
Vipers saw their winning form return at the StarTimes stadium last week with a 2-1 victory over an exciting Police FC side.
The result was good though not timely and less inspiring to Vipers title hopes which had already diminished after the home fall to URA FC.
Michael Nam Ouma’s side actually hasn’t been in the finest vein of form since the turn of the month of April with just a single win over the Cops in their last four league games.
Vipers have scored 4 goals in their last four league games and have picked up five from the possible twelve points in this time. We have also won just one of our last four games, which doesn’t set us up with much confidence for this game, we will hope that the hosts relegation status can be a turning point for us though.
With the title already won by KCCA FC, Vipers have actually little to play for in the remaining two games.
A visit to the already relegated Paidha Black Angels may look easy on paper but the Venoms know what their opponents are capable of after putting up a stellar display in the reverse fixture but were unfortunate to lose 2-1.
Paidha can cause an upset like they have done before when they knocked Vipers out of the Uganda Cup two years ago. Besides, their confidence is quite high following their 1-1 draw with rivals Onduparaka last week in the West Nile derby.
The fans at Zombo are passionate and can be intimidating especially when they know this is their last home game in the maiden season in the top flight and would certainly want their team to sign off in style since there is visibly nothing left to save or fight for – slaying a big side like Vipers would be good for them.
However, Ouma will take no chances either, he has the depth and strength in his squad to get the best results.
Brian Nkuubi has been the Venoms’ best player in the last five games therefore stakes are high that the Kenyan born tactician will start him in the midfield with either Taddeo Lwanga or Ibrahim Tembo.
We hope Dan Sserunkuma can replicate his form and score more goals to still be in contention for the golden boot with the likes of Juma Balinya (Police FC).
Team News:
Moses Waiswa is out for the rest of the season with an ankle problem but Tom Masiko and youngster Bobos Byaruhanga are available for selection.
Halid Lwaliwa is also doubtful after suffering a groin injury in the 1-1 draw with KCCA meaning Livingstone Mulondo will be partnered with Henry Katongole in the center back.
Rahmat Ssenfuka and Ibrahim Kiyemba are out of this tie nursing injuries.
Taddeo Lwanga bounces back after serving his suspension having accumulated three yellow cards.
