KCCA FC v Vipers SC

All roads will lead to the StarTimes Stadium at Lugogo this Thursday when table leaders KCCA FC host defending champions Vipers SC in a rescheduled Uganda Premier League encounter which is set to keep fans of either side on toes.

Ahead of the anticipated titanic clash, we take you through some interesting facts, figures and vital statistics related to the meetings between both teams dating to way back in 2006 when the Venoms joined the top flight league.

Its bound to be a nail biting contest as the Kitende based side desperately labours to close the gap on the Kasasiro lads in a bid to retain the league crown and interestingly both clubs has it as the only chance for a silverware this season following their exit from the Uganda cup.

Vipers and KCCA will be meeting for the 28th time in the league with the Venoms slightly superior with a victory more than their opponents having 11 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses out of the previous 27 encounters, a total of 34 goals against 37 have been registered in the process making it a -3 goal difference.

The first round encounter  at St Marys stadium ended in a 1-1 draw with Vipers scoring through Dan Mzee Serunkuuma  before Filbert Obenchan equalised for KCCA and they could have clinched all the three points had Saddam Juma not missed a second half penalty.

KCCA shifted to the Startimes Stadium at Lugogo during the 2012/2013 football season and out of the 6 league fixtures hosted at the venue since then, Vipers counts 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses with a total of 6 goals against 7.

Vipers first ever win over KCCA occurred on 28th September 2008 at Nakivubo stadium in a thrilling 3-1 victory courtesy of a Yuda Mugalu brace and a third by Samson Ceaser Okhuti before Brian Umony scored what proved a consolation in a match the Venoms current trainer Edward Ssali was rushed to Namirembe hospital unconsious after a head of collision.

The corresponding fixture at Lugogo ended 3-1 in KCCA’s favour when Shaban Muhammed netted a double on his debut in between Yayo Lutimba’s thunderous penalty before a late howler from James Alitho allowed Derrick Nsibambi to score a third as Vipers desperately searched for the equaliser.
