Vipers goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora has been named in the Burundi 26 man squad to face Congo Brazzaville on March 20 at Stade Prince Louis Rwagasore.
Burundi U23 football team head Coach Bakari Shime named his side that will prepare for the crucial tie against Congo Brazzaville in the second phase of the playoffs for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
Mutombora was part of the side that beat Tanzania 2-0 in Bujumbura last November in the qualifiers and returns to Shime’s fold for another task.
The Venoms custodian suffered an elbow injury away in Dar es Salaam during the Swallows vs Tanzania return leg and subsequently missed in action for over a month.
The Burundian shot stopper who joined Vipers at the start of this season from Lydia Ludic has since been considered the Venoms’ first choice.
Winner over both legs will face Zambia or Malawi in the final round in June for a place at November’s finals in Egypt.
The top three finishers in Egypt will represent Africa at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games football tournament.
