Stanbic Uganda Cup

  • Vipers SC v Kiboga Young FC
  • St Mary’s stadium | 4:00pm

Vipers Sports Club heart stopping Startimes Uganda Premier League campaign is taking a break allowing the club fans to get their collective breath back as it makes way for Stanbic Uganda Cup commitments.

The Venoms will be searching for their second trophy in this competition since the maiden triumph in 2016 as Fufa Big League side Kiboga Young FC stand between us and a place in the quarterfinals.

  • Vipers has ever lost only once against Big League opposition when Paidha Black Angels inflicted a 1-0 loss on the Kitende based club in 2017 through a Fred Amaku strike at St Mary’s stadium.
  • Last season, the Venoms were beaten 1-0 by KCCA in the final played at Bukedea Emokori grounds to miss out on being double champions after lifting the Uganda Premier League in the same season.
  • The only other time Vipers lost to a lower league opposition was in 2015 against Kyambogo United via a 5-4 penalty shoot out following a goalless draw in regulation time.
  • Vipers will be looking to fare better in this season as the Uganda Cup competition has not shown the best of our club, for we have lost 3 times in the final against URA FC (2012), Victoria University (2013) and KCCA FC (2018), our only triumph was against Onduparaka FC in 2016 via a 3-1 victory at Nakivubo stadium.
  • This is the second time and at the same level Vipers will be meeting Kiboga Young in the competition, the last engagement ended 7-0 in the Venoms favour to book a quarter final berth where Paidha Black Angels ended our continuation in the tournament.
  • To reach this stage, the Venoms overcame another Fufa big league team Kansai Plascon 4-0 while Rusekere Growers failed to show up at Kitende for the round of 64 fixture thus we qualified to the round of 32 without a sweat.
  • Its going to be the third consecutive home game for Vipers in the competition as Rusekere Growers and Kansai Plascon were all home ties.
