Midfielder Innocent Wafula scored his first goal at Vipers SC on Tuesday evening as the Venoms edged Nyamityobora FC at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara district.

Wafula who joined us in January scored the lone goal of the game to help the team secure maximum points and extend the unbeaten run to 34 games.

Match Day Squad: Coach Mike Nam Ouma and his technical bench made no less than four changes to the squad that started against Kirinya Jinja SS last week.

There were a couple of changes in the team including striker Hamis ‘Diego’ Kizza making his first appearance.

Skipper Taddeo Lwanga and Moses Waiswa were rested as their slots were taken by Rahmat Ssenfuka and Brian Nkuubi.

Utility player Geoffrey Wasswa played in right back position in the absence of Ibrahim Kiyemba who was sent off in the 1-0 win against Kirinya Jinja SS FC last week.

Assured Presence. Vice captain Geoffrey
Wasswa made his presence felt in absence of Ibrahim Kiyemba who is serving suspension.

Yayo Lutimba too returned to the starting team after missing out the last two games through a slight knock.

The game was closely contested with either side creating goal scoring chances but the Venoms eventually got the edge.

Three minutes after kick, defender Halid Lwaliwa had to make a quick interception to deny the visitors on the break.

Newbie In The Mix: Newly signed striker Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza was quickly thrown into the starting XI against Nyamityobora as Vipers sought maximum points.

On the other hand, Dan Sserunkuma fired on target when Wafula teed him up but Nyamityobora’s goalkeeper Dennis Otim parried the ball away for a corner.

At the tenth minute mark, Wafula and Kiiza had a quick interplay but the latter slipped and lost possession.

Hoodoo Ends: There was no better way for Innocent Wafula to break his scoring jinx than against the Banyakare in a crucial tie.

The goal came four minutes later when Wafula volleyed home from Yayo Lutimba’s cross to give us the lead. The goal eventually turned out to be decisive moment of the game.

Fabien Mutombora made a fine save to deny the home side when John Sserunjogi shot on target.

Wafula nearly doubled the lead when Sserunkuma set him up but he was unlucky with his effort ricocheting off the crossbar. In almost a similar manner Nkuubi’s freekick also kissed the woodwork.

Man-Marking: Halild Lwaliwa (L) takes the initiative to show fast-rising Livingstone Mulondo how to double-team an opponent.

Kiiza headed just over while Tito Okello and Sserunkuma too got close but the game went into the mandatory break with the scoreboard reading 0-1.

The first change on the day came with twenty minutes on the clock when Okello paved way for Tom Masiko. Later on, Ibrahim Tembo and Joseph Jjanjali replacing Nkuubi and Sserunkuma respectively.

The Venoms held on to the score a result which means we remain second on the log with 37 points.

Vipers SC will return to action on Saturday at home against SC Villa.
