Nyamityobora FC vs Vipers SC
4pm |Kakyeka stadium
Buoyant Nyamityobora will be put to test when champions Vipers visit Kakyeka Stadium today afternoon in the Uganda Premier League.
The Venoms come into this encounter with their heads high after returning to winning ways following a 1-0 victory over Kirinya-Jinja last Friday that saw them stretch their unbeaten record to 33 matches.
However, Asaph Mwebaze’s charges are still basking in the glory of a 4-1 demolition of Police and will be a tough nut for the Kitende-based contenders.
Nyamityobora are fighting against relegation and with the second round of the season already underway, time is running out fast.
The Venoms were pushed to the edge by Nyamityobora in the first round and had to thank a last-gasp Davis Kasirye strike to beat the newcomers in what was a lackluster display by the then Javier Martinez Espinoza-coached team.
Heads have rolled since for both sides with both clubs with Martinez and James Odoch being shown the exit door for Michael Nam Ouma and Mwebaze respectively. With new men in the dugout, it is expected to be an enthralling contest.
Vipers are three points behind leaders KCCA on the table and with SC Villa to come on Saturday, they will not want to lose more ground on Mike Mutebi’s side.
The arrival of experienced striker Hamis ‘Diego’ Kizza should give life to an attack that has flattered to deceive this term. His combination with Dan Sserunkuma should make the team more potent.
Team News:
Ibrahim Kiyemba is suspended for this encounter after being sent off against Kirinya-Jinja SS FC.
Either Henry Katongole, Geofrey Wasswa or Ibrahim Tembo will play in right back.
Moses Waiswa did not make the trip to Mbarara implying Brain Nkuubi, Abraham Ndugwa or Tom Masiko will partner Tadeo Lwanga and Rahmat Ssenfuka in the midfield.
Joseph Janjali and Yayo Lutimba return to the squad after being dropped last time.
Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza is likely to make his Vipers debut after completing his switch from Ethiopia.
