Vipers SC remain the only team yet to suffer defeat this season. And the run extended on Friday after registering a one all draw against URA FC at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

The draw meant the Venoms have not lost a game in the last 31 league games. Coincidentally, the last time Vipers SC lost a league game was in November 2017 against URA FC.

Tito Okello

Dan Sserunkuma scored at the stoke of halftime to cancel out Shafik Kagimu’s opener for the hosts as the game eventually ended in a stalemate.

Vipers SC began the better side making several attempts at goal with Tito Okello, Innocent Wafula and Sserunkuma troubling the host’s back line.

Yayo Lutimba

Sserunkuma could have given us the lead in the 19th minute but failed to connect to Okello’s cross just with goalkeeper James Alitho to beat.

Five minutes later, a glorious chance was wasted with no one to tap home into an empty net when Wafula made the donkey work on the right wing before his cross went begging.

Wafula too fluffed another chance heading wide when Ibrahim Kiyemba teed him up from a free kick.

Geofrey Wasswa

It was URA FC who broke the deadlock instead in the 37th minute off a counter attack on the left with Ronald Musana’s cross finding Shafik Kagimu unmarked. He volleyed the ball into the back of the net.

Deep into the one minute of added time, Sserunkuma levelled matters with his ferocious strike going past goalkeeper Alitho at the near post.

The technical bench called for changes in the second half introducing Brian Nkuubi for Taddeo Lwanga first before bringing on Abraham Ndugwa and Duncan Sseninde for Okello and Wafula respectively.

There were more attempts from either side but no goals were registered in the second stanza as the game eventually ended in a one all draw.

The result means the Venoms moved to 30 points in 14 games with the final game of the first round slated for Sunday at home (St Mary’s Stadium) against Mbarara City FC.
