Africa’s football governing body, Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the procedure and qualified team pots basing on accumulated points ahead of the Confederations Cup playoff round draws.

The draw ceremony is slated to be held today at Nile Ritz Carlton hotel in the Al Qahira ballroom at 1800 hours Egyptian local time equivalent to 8:00pm East African standard time.

Vipers Sports Club are placed in Pot C of the non seeded champions league teams poised to face seeded confederations cup teams from Pot B comprising of Zamalek (Egypt), Raja  Casablanca ( Morocco), KCCA FC (Uganda), CS Faxien ( Tunisia) and RS Berkane (Morocco).

According to the procedure, one ball will be drawn from Pot B and one from Pot C repeatedly to determine five encounters then the remaining Pot C three teams shall be drawn against the remaining three unseeded teams in Pot D to complete 8 pairings plus 7 of Pot A & D to make 15 engagements whose winners after two legs joins Etoile du Sahel in the group stages.

Note:- that Pot A has 7 seeded teams that dropped from the champions league and will be drawn against the unseeded teams of the confederation cup first round winners in Pot D which consists of ten teams meaning three teams will remain without opponents after the first round of draws.

Therefore, incase Vipers is not drawn against any of Pot B seeded teams, a final draw will be conducted with teams from Pot D consisting unseeded confederations cup teams namely Petro de Luanda (Angola), Hassania Agadir (Morocco), Enugu Rangers (Nigeria), Salitas FC (Burkina Faso), Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa), New Stars (Cameroon), Asante Kotoko (Ghana), Mukura Victory (Rwanda) and NA Hussein Dey (Algeria).

This latest development places the Venoms in line to meet fellow Startimes Uganda Premier League contestants KCCA in an historical continental engagement which will be the first of its kind between Ugandan clubs if it happens.
