Bashir Ssekagya has continued to win many hearts of fans with his great command and performance in goal.
Despite not playing many games at the start, Ssekagya has not disappointed since the time he got his chance when Fabien Mutombora got injured.
The 22-year-old appeared not to be nervous in Khartoum as he frustrated El Merriekh on a night he will remember for a long time.
On his debut:
“Making my CAF Champions League debut was a unique feeling. I was very anxious before the game in Sudan, he stated before adding “Whenever Vipers SC competes, it’s for the win. And since it was in the CAF Champions League, it’s what everyone —coaches, players and fans — want, and we battled on the field to eliminate El Merreikh.”
Ssekagya who arrived at St. Mary’s stadium at the start of the 2018/19 season from UPDF FC, made his Uganda Premier League debut against Paidha Black Angels and has since then made four starts.
He hopes that the Venoms can edge their next opponent in the CAF Champions League, CS Constantine from Algeria and advance to the group stages.
“I hope we can fight past Algeria’s Constantine and progress to the group stages for big things. Of course everything has just begun, but we have big objectives and we hope to win important things.”
“The fans and the players really want to win. The match against El Merreikh was special, but we have to prove ourselves in front of our fans again. I hope to help the team in whatever way I can. We work hard every day to be prepared when I take the field and help my team.” he said.
Vipers SC will play CS Constantine on 14th December 2018 in the first leg away in Algeria and a return leg at St. Mary’s stadium a week later (December 22).
