Midfielder Moses Waiswa has had great performance throughout 2018 not only for Vipers SC but the National team as well.

His efforts did not go unnoticed as the creative midfielder was on Friday, named the best footballer in 2018 during the FUFA Awards held at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Waiswa beat off competition from Viane Ssekajugo (Onduparaka FC) and Allan Okello (KCCA FC) to scoop the coveted accolade.

His commanding displays in the midfield helped theVenoms win the league this last year, scoring five goals and creating several others in the process.

Vipers also reached the Uganda Cup with Waiswa playing a great role albeit the Venoms losing to KCCA FC in the final.

It was upon such background that Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre summoned him to the National team and Waiswa when he was handed his debut against Tanzania in September.

From then, he became a mainstay in the Cranes and was part of the squad that helped Uganda qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

In his speech after being declared , Waiswa lauded everyone who has helped him achieve this glory and promised to .

“It is been a long journey for me but I can now comfortably say, the dream has come true. When I decided to return from Sweden and play here, many thought I had made a bad decision but I don’t regret now,” he started before adding, “I want to thank the Almighty Allah, my family, my team Vipers SC, the coaches, fellow players, FUFA and fans because we have moved the journey together and I hope this will motivate me to work harder.” – Moses Waiswa.

 The prize came with a brand new car (Mark II) thatWaiswa drove away on the night.

 Besides the MVP Award, he was also named in the FUFA best team of the year a slot that came with a cash prize of Ushs 500,000/=.

Waiswa becomes the second player from our team to win the Most Valuable Player Award after Farouk Miya in 2016.
