Vipers Sports Club maintained its grip at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table after picking a point against KCCA FC in the game played at St.Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.
The Venoms played out a one all draw with KCCA FC a result which meant the team moved to 14 points in six games.
Dan ‘Muzeeyi’ Sserunkuma scored for Vipers SC in the first half but the visitors equalised at the start of the second stanza and the game eventually ended in a stalemate.
Manager Javier Martinez Espinoza made only two changes from the team that started against Kirinya Jinja SS in midweek with Fred Okot replacing Rahmat Ssenfuka while Halid Lwaliwa started in place of injured Livingstone Mulondo.
Okot was making his first start since joining the team at the start of the season and played at right back. Asiku was shifted to centre back while Geoffrey Wasswa played in defensive midfield position.
Vipers SC started the better side with Sserunkuma, Duncan Sseninde and Noah Wafula wrecking havoc to the KCCA FC back line.
Goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora was also in fine form to deny the visitors on several occasions including saving a penalty in the second half.
Sserunkuma slotted home in the 35th minute to give Vipers SC the lead in a what was a team goal.
Wafula won possession just after the half way line to release Abraham Ndugwa on the right flank. The latter’s ground cross cut a cross the goal area but found Sseninde on the other end to set up a waiting Sserunkuma for the opener.
The strike meant Vipers SC went into the mandatory break leading 1-0.
However, two minutes into the second stanza, KCCA FC equalized through defender Filbert Obenchan.
Despite efforts from the Venoms to regain the lead, there were no more goals produced. The Manager brought on Brian Nkuubi, Joseph Jjanjali and Tom Masiko but there were no dividends.
Mutombora who had a man of the match performance denied Allan Kyambadde in one on one situation and also denied Saddam Juma from the spot.
