Vipers SC Vs KCCA FC

4pm

St Mary’s stadium

Two of Uganda’s biggest clubs are set to do battle it out at the St. Mary’s stadium on Saturday as reigning champions Vipers Sports Club host KCCA FC in what could become an early statement of intent from both clubs.

Involved in a pulsating title race last season, the Venoms hopes were almost reduced after the Lugogo side went into an early lead following two Shaban Muhammed goals but the former put up a spirited fight to win 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.

A win for Vipers tomorrow, who top the table at 13pts will see the Kitende based side open a five-point lead on KCCA.

This is going to be a true test for Javier Martinez Espinoza’s side as they look to build on their impressive 22 unbeaten run since last November.

Vipers have won 4 and drawn one gathering 13 points, a good record so far, this campaign whilst Mike Mutebi’s side has drawn 2, won 3 and trail Vipers by 2 points.

A win for Vipers will consolidate their stay on top boasting their confidence ahead of their visit to Express FC next week.

Team News:-

Vipers have fitness concerns with Livingstone Mulondo who is ruled out after picking a knee injury against Kirinnya-Jinja.

Aggrey Madoi resumed training with the rest of the team but this fixture comes too early for him as he lacks match fitness.

Goal keeper Derrick Ochan picked a shoulder problem during last team’s to training meaning Fabien Mutombora and Bashir Ssekagya will keep their places.

Tom Masiko will be reunited with his former manager, Mike Mutebi on Saturday.

Tadeo Lwanga completes his two match suspension and will return for Vipers trip to Wankulukuku.

The rest of the team is in fine form.

WHAT THEY SAY:-

Espinoza:- “We can be disappointed about the result on Tuesday in Jinja. I think we deserved more than that but a point picked away isn’t bad.”

“You cannot change your approach. With and without the ball we are going to try to have a strategy for KCCA FC and play in the way we have been playing.”

Moses Waiswa:- “We’re playing against one of the top teams like us in the country but we still have to show our way of playing and when we do that we know we can cause problems. That’s what we’re looking to do, perform well and get that much needed result.”

“We know its battle of the top of the table clash but the only team that can beat us, is ourselves. When we don’t play our game and don’t stick to plan we get punished.
