SC Villa v Vipers SC
4pm
Namboole stadium
One of the league’s biggest rivalries continues on Wednesday when Vipers SC face SC Villa at Namboole Stadium.
The Venoms beat Nyamityobora 1-0 in a game of two halves at home last weekend. Javier Martinez Espinoza’s side went into the break 1-0 courtesy of Dan Sserunkuma’s strike, however the second half was dominated by the Abanyakare despite failing to score.
Both teams come in with varying form. The hosts have struggled with inconsistency since the start of the season. The Jogoos fought for a goalless draw against Bright Stars FC in Mwererwe and have just two points from three games.
Meanwhile Vipers, the reigning champions, have won all their three opening games and will be gunning for more tomorrow.
Despite all, Vipers will face a stern test from the hosts hence more ruthlessness and sharpness will be needed especially in the final third if Martinez’s men are to pound more misery on Moses Basena’s team.
The last meeting between the two teams in Masaka ended 0-1 in favour of Vipers who completed a double over the Jogoos.
Interestingly Dan Sserunkuma was the star in that tie and comes into this game high on confidence having opened his 2018-19 goal account in the 1-0 victory over Nyamityobora.
“Obviously we know it’s a big game and we are very prepared for it,” Taddeo Lwanga said. “Tomorrow’s challenge is to win the game against a really wounded side that hasn’t got a win since the League started but we are ready for the challenge.”
